Gules a demi horse argent hoofed and maned or, issuing out of water in base proper; though it appears by old seals that the arms were once a lion rampant holding a baton. According to tradition, the present bearing is a memorial of one of the family having swam on horseback from the rocks called Seven Stones to the Land's End, co. Cornwall, at the time of an inundation, which is said to have overwhelmed a great tract of land, and to have severed those rocks from co. Cornwall
