What is recorded

Each time an identification is run, one row is added to the query log:

• · the query as entered: tinctures, charges, ordinaries, uncertainty options, filters (region, type);
• · the number of results, the best candidate and its score;
• · the result you opened, if any, and its rank in the list;
• · the response time and the date.

The purpose is the one stated on the Introduction page: searches that fail — no results, or the right shield ranked poorly — become permanent test cases. A query promoted to a test case enters the project’s public repository; it contains nothing but a heraldic description, never personal information.

What is not recorded

• · no accounts, no names, no email addresses;
• · no IP addresses in the query log;
• · no cookies, no advertising trackers, no visitor identifier — the page-view count described below uses none.

The hosting infrastructure produces ephemeral technical logs (IP addresses included), used only to run the service and protect it from abuse; they are neither kept durably nor cross-referenced with the query log.

Traffic

Page views are counted by GoatCounter, a service that uses no cookies and no persistent identifier: it records the page, the referring site, the browser, the system, the screen width and the country, never the IP address nor the full browser header. The data is hosted in the European Union and shared with no one.

Retention

The query log is kept for at most twelve months, then deleted. Test cases derived from it are kept indefinitely — that is their purpose.
