Attestations: what are they?
Some arms carry an “Attested: in Renesse’s dictionary…” or “in … Ordinary” note. It points to a reference work, separate from the armorial that gives the blazon, where this name appears with these arms. It is independent corroboration: two books that agree are worth more than one.
Renesse, Dictionnaire des figures héraldiques (1894–1903): files families by charge (lion, cross…); it cites the family under the charges of its arms.
Only sure matches are counted (same name in Renesse, a confirmed entry in Papworth). Each coat’s page lists every citation, with a link to the scanned printed page.
